HOUSE TOWEEL, Johannesburg

It's not everyday that an architect is commissioned to design a home on a site that is as challenging & dramatic as this one. Our response to the challenge was a bold initiative to synergise the practical and functional aspects of living with an innovative & striking architectural statement. Three pairs of steel fingers rising out of the cliff were created to support & suspend the house which is expressed externally. It becomes an iconic aesthetic element comprising a dramatic composition of steel, glass, rock & timber. The lines between inside & outside become blurred, so that one feels part of the oneness of the surrounding landscape.
